You might have heard of Oracle moving their headquarters to Austin, Tesla’s Gigafactory in Del Valle, Apple building a campus in Northwest Austin, and Dell’s headquarters in Austin-Round Rock. Healthcare, finance, retail, and real estate appears to be on top of the list of industries in Austin. Here is a list to name a few of the major employers in Austin.
1. Adobe
A software company is known for Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Lightroom. The company has over 300 employees in Austin TX while 21,000 worldwide. Adobe offers a world of cutting-edge technology with the opportunity to build new exciting solutions for their Magento Commerce Cloud.
2. Amazon
The largest e-Commerce website Amazon has a corporate office located in The Domain with over 400+ local employees. In July 2020, Amazon announced it would be opening a fulfillment center in Pflugerville, creating 1,000 new jobs.
3. Apple Inc.
The manufacturer of iPhone, iPad, and Macbook, Apple Inc., announced its expansion in Austin wherein a campus build worth $1 billion is in the works. This will accommodate 5,000 employees and the capacity to grow up to 15,000.
4. Austin Independent School District
Austin ISD is the fifth-largest school district in Texas and is one of the city’s largest employers. It serves about 80,000 students at 130 schools and has over 12,000 employees.
5. Dell Technologies
Dell is one of the largest sellers and developers of computers in the world. It is also the largest employer with its headquarters located in Austin-Round Rock with over 13,000 local employees since 2019.
6. Electronic Arts
Known for its global interactive entertainment software such as the popular games such as The Sims, FIFA, and Battlefield, Electronic Arts has its corporate office in Austin, Texas. EA has 650 local employees and 9,600 employees worldwide.
7. IBM Corporation
Another tech giant, IBM, has many offices throughout Austin that includes one of the 12 research laboratories. IBM offers computer hardware and software, hosting, and consulting services. It is also one of the largest employers in Austin with over 5,500 local employees.
8. Google
The multinational technology company is home to 150,000 employees worldwide with over 1,400 local employees located in Austin. Google Austin’s office can be found at 2nd St within Downtown Austin.
9. H-E-B
This Texas-based grocery store has over 18,000 employees in Austin from 2020 and is one of the major employers in Austin according to Austin Business Journal.
10. Oracle
In December 2020, Oracle Corporation was one of the latest tech giants to relocate its headquarters to Austin, Texas. The second biggest software company in the world said it’s moving its headquarters from Silicon Valley to Austin as they implement a more flexible employee work location policy where their employees can choose their office location or continue to work from home full-time or part-time.
11. Seton Family of Hospitals
Seton Family of Hospitals, a health system, is a part of the Ascension Health Network of nonprofit medical facilities. It is also one of the major contributors to the economy of Central Texas. Seton Family of Hospitals has over 10,000 employees in the Austin area.
12. St. David’s HealthCare Partnership
St. David’s Healthcare has more than 130 sites across Central Texas and is one of the largest health systems in the state. St. David’s Healthcare is the third-largest private employer in the Austin area with more than 10,600 employees.
13. Tesla
Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk announced in July 2020 he was opening his Tesla Gigafactory in Austin. The new Gigafactory located in eastern Travis County at Del Valle is set for completion by the end of 2021. The Gigafactory is one of the world’s largest and most advanced plants that will bring an estimated $1 billion in capital investment to the region and has planned to hire 5,000 people to staff the new facility.

Under Armour is known as performance apparel. Its very first Connected Fitness digital headquarters is located within the Seaholm Power Plan District.
15. University of Texas – Austin
UT Austin is the fifth-largest public university in the United States. It was founded in 1883 and is also the largest component of The University of Texas System. UT Austin has more than 200,000 students and 87,000 faculty and staff.
